Slow down. It’s not a race.
Those of you who have ever booked travel with me know I am a huge proponent of "less is more". Go to fewer places, spread it out & don't rush. Schedule some personal time for yourself and allow for when things go a little sideways. It’s called slow travel.
Travel isn't always about checking off boxes & seeing how many sights, cities or countries you can squeeze in. It is about enjoying your time in that place and being present in the moment.
Maybe it is seeing every museum but if you don't like them then so what if you don't go? It could be you prefer to bike ride around a city or go to the local pub or just sit on your balcony and read.
On my last visit to Munich, we slept late, took a lovely stroll to the Der Englischer Garden and just enjoyed the day. We found the beer garden. Yes, a beer garden in a park - how cool is that? It is Munich after all :)
We figured out how to order food and wine and then found a shady table to sit and have lunch.
It was so enjoyable to just sit and do something both tourists and locals do on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Families with their giggling children, dogs going from table to table looking for a pat or a snack, older couples dressed like they just came from church and we listed to the band. A quick lunch turned into about 4-5 hours.
So, no I did not get to everything I "should" in Munich but did a great walking tour and saw the Glockenspiel, learned some history but I will remember this as one of my favourite days. Just enjoying the company of a good friend.
Laughing and chatting and yes some wine was consumed. You would think after being away together for 20 days we would have run out of talk.
