My Point of View: Look for Value, Not Deals

The New Reality of Travel Budgets

Most everything in travel costs more now and is booked far ahead. It’s the new reality. You may have a budget in mind before you start serious research. That is good because you know what you can afford right now, but your budget may not achieve your expectations after some research. The solution is to be flexible.

The Best Value for the Right Experience

Instead of looking for "deals", a better way of thinking is ‘find the best value for the right experience for you’.

Let me help you find the “right” vacation. I have a pretty keen sense of the value of a travel itinerary and the ability to understand your travel goals and match you with the right itinerary.

Tell me about yourself in our consultation session so I can get a sense of your style and what kind of travel experience is right for you.

Step 1: Find the Right Experience

Your best travel experience may be different from what you expect and can be a pleasant surprise. Consider destinations that are unfamiliar but may meet the checklist of things you like: activities, culture, food and right level of adventure.

Many of my clients are glad they chose the "path less travelled" and discovered a new favourite travel experience. Don't Let the language barrier prevent you from immersing yourself in an a new culture. You'll be amazed at how welcoming and helpful people are everywhere you go.

Step 2: Find the Best Value for that Experience

Like other travel advisors, we often have access to information the public does not have - despite the social media hype about travel hacks and booking online.

The flight is often the biggest component of the overall trip cost and can have some complexity. Connections, fares and rules can be overwhelming. Don’t leave this to the end of the planning, it needs to be part of the big picture before you commit.

Hotels can make or break a vacation more than anything else. I get valuable feedback from my clients on many hotels, and I am happy to share their experiences. I encourage you to share your hotel experiences with me.

Step 3: Ensure You Get the Best Experience

An often overlooked part of what I do happens after the planning - readiness and assistance. I have a very thorough checklist for every traveller to make sure nothing gets missed. During travel, I am available 24/7 to assist you with cancellations and changes. I am a full service travel advisor and your personal concierge.

Don’t overload your itinerary - pace yourself. Plan for some down time to enjoy the local scene. As my Dad used to say, It's Not a Race!

Protect your investment. The right travel insurance will cover you from the unforeseen things that can happen.

Research is Fun, but Check with Me

I know how fun it is to search online (I love it too!). Before you book online, let me check for any hidden rules, the total cost and that you’re working with a reputable supplier.

Budget for the trip you really want - even if it means postponing it. I would rather see you plan for the following year and get the trip you want and deserve.
